Frequently Asked Questions – Cleansing Pads

How long do the pads last?

In our one-year test phase, the pads were washed at least once a week in the washing machine at 90 degrees. Meanwhile, that was already almost four years ago and they are still in good condition and can be used daily.

How many pads are needed?

The consumption of the pads depends on the individual cleaning routine. There are 10 pads in our starter pack. With this quantity you will have at least 2 days, depending on how many pads you need for cleaning. If you only need 2 pads per day, you can get by with it for 5 days, until you have to wash the pads all over again. If you are on holiday for a few days longer, you can increase the amount of pads with a Refill Pack. Our Starter Pack bags hold up to 25 pads.

Are the pads cheaper than regular pads?

This question cannot be answered with "yes", because many factors play together with the costs. For example, how many cotton pads are needed per cleaning routine and which brand of cotton pads has been purchased so far.
Here is an example calculation:

2 pads per day of e.g. Ebelin (140 pieces for 80 cents) for 1 year: consumption of 5.21 packs = approx. 4,20 Cent.

This means that the purchase of CLEAN CLEAN Pads would only pay for itself after 7 years.

If you are already more environmentally conscious and use organic cotton wool pads, you should consider this. E.g. from THE BODY SHOP (100 pieces for 3,50 Euro;) or Masmi (80 pieces for 1,99 Euro;) pays 25,55 Euro and 18,16 Euro respectively in one year. The Cleansing Pads pay off much earlier than that.

If you use more than 4 pads per day you save a lot of money with the Clean Clean Cleansing Pads.

Now you can add the water and energy consumption, because the pads have to be washed. But if you wash the pads together with other laundry in the washing machine, these calculation points are omitted.

Are the pads more environmental-friendly than single-use pads?

Here we can answer clearly with „Yes“. For the production of the pads, cotton is planted and processed only once. Their repeated consumption reduces the cotton and water consumption. On the other hand, there are no plastic bags that serve as packaging for conventional cotton wool pads.

However, it depends on which cosmetics or make-up you need. If they contain environmentally hazardous substances, such as microplastics or other substances, you should take care that these products do not get into the grey water, because the filter systems of sewage treatment plants can hardly filter out these substances. The GOTS certified organic cotton we use is also much more environmentally friendly than conventional cotton. More than half the amount of water and no chemicals are needed to grow it. Cotton is also only grown in regions and on areas where it thrives. The areas under cultivation are not leached and overused.

How to clean the skin with the pads?

The Clean Clean Cleansing Pads can be used like the cotton wool pads used in the past to cleanse the skin.

At the beginning the fibres on the reusable make-up removal pads are still very fluffy and voluminous. To guarantee that they absorb moisture or do not fuzz, it is recommended to wet them shortly under the tap and wring them out.
Then clean the face with them as usual.

Clean Clean Cleansing Pads are a purely cosmetic and not a medically hygienic product. Although the pads are steamed with hot steam before sale, they are not sterile. They should therefore not be used to clean wounds.

They are also not suitable for removing nail polish. On the one hand, it cannot be washed out, on the other hand nail polish and nail polish remover should not be allowed to enter grey water. Because it harms the environment.

How to clean the pads?

If you scrub the pads or treat them with a brush, they may peel off and form small lumps. This is a quality feature of cotton with its soft, rough surface and therefore no blemish.

Generally, dark make-up, mascara and waterproof products may turn the pads grey for a few weeks. This is normal. But they are still pure and not affected by the use. Simply treat them with an environmentally friendly stain remover after the next use and put them into the next wash. Then they should be clean again soon. To dry the pads simply lay them flat and pull them into shape if necessary. A flat radiator, for example, is ideal, as it provides good ventilation for the make-up removal pads. Usually the reusable pads are dry and ready for use again within a few hours.

Are the pads suited for every skin type?

The pads are made of high quality GOTS certified cotton, which is also suitable for baby textiles. Therefore the pads are also suitable for very sensitive skin.

Where are Clean Clean products manufactured?

To ensure a transparent manufacturing process, we manufacture our products in Germany with the help of the Elbe Werkstätten in Hamburg. This means we have very short distances for coordination within production and for delivery.

What do I do with the pads when they are no longer usable?

If the make-up remover pads do not meet your expectations at some point and become clearly threadbare, you can simply put the cleansing pads in the bio bin, the house compost or in the Bokashi. The condition is of course that there are no chemical components on the pads.
